Stavanger is a Norwegian coastal city on the Stavanger Peninsula, bordering the beautiful fjord of Boknafjorden. This Northern Europe Cruises destination is known for its characterful wooden houses, cultural museums, and 12th-century cathedral. Stavanger is also the perfect gateway for touring the region’s many wonders. Visit the extraordinary Preikestolen, the Swords in the Rock monument, and the spectacular Lysefjord.

Take an excursion to Hafrsfjord, the historical site of King Harald Fairhair’s battle. See the impressive 'Sverd i Fjell' — a monument commemorating the infamous 872 clash which united the kingdom of Norway. Symbolising peace, unity, and freedom, you’ll admire the monument’s three bronze swords rising 10m from the ground. Afterwards, explore the area of Hafrsfjord on a leisurely bicycle or Pedelec ride.

The Stavanger Archipelago, off Norway’s atmospheric coastline, is abundant with spectacular wildlife. An excursion will take you to Lysefjord by boat, where you can admire the rugged landscapes. Later, arrive at Preikestolen, also known as the Pulpit Rock, a breathtaking cliff rising dramatically above the fjord. Here you’ll take in unforgettable Nordic panoramas. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

If you’re an outdoors enthusiast, enjoy an excursion through the mountainous landscapes of Norway to the picturesque Preikestolen cliff — one of the world’s most spectacular viewpoints! Located in Rogaland, this geological wonder was formed around 10,000 years ago during the Ice Age. Towering over Lysefjord, the Pulpit Rock offers panoramic views that are truly mesmerising. Gaze at the scenery, photograph its beauty, and pause for a moment of silence.

Select an unforgettable excursion to visit the Måbødal Valley, the Vøringsfoss Waterfall and the Hardangervidda National Park.

Day 7: Kristiansand, Norway

The ship arrives at Kristiansand at 12:00 and departs at 20:00

Norway is a country renowned for its dramatic fjords, rugged coastlines, glittering glacial landscapes, and jagged mountain ranges. Here, the seaside resort city of Kristiansand delivers an alluring number of attractions to visitors, from its cluster of cultural wonders to is glamorous marina and beaches. Kristiansand’s old town, Posebyen, offers chocolate-box charm with its white-washed wooden houses and eclectic collection of shops, while its urban centre boasts a range of fine museums, restaurants, and street art.

If your cruise is a family affair, pay a visit to the Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park. Open since the 1960s, this sprawling 150 acre must-see boasts an impressive menagerie of animals.

For thrill-seekers, Captain Sabertooth World offers guests a dazzling array of attractions including a haunted house, a daily battle re-enactment, and plenty of eateries including a pirate themed grill and pizza restaurant. The affiliated water park features a number of slides, a beach, and a range of inviting swimming pools.

Sørlandet museum, in the heart of the city, exhibits local, national and international artists while also hosting workshops. Further afield, the imposing Cannon Museum boats a rich collection of military exhibits, all housed in a WWII fortress.

Day 8: Oslo, Norway

The ship arrives at Oslo at 07:00 and departs at 16:00

The capital of Norway will introduce you to the culture and vitality of the Norwegian people. An ideal location for this purpose, when you land from your cruise, is the fortress of Akershus, built from the 12th century, in which history blends with the beautiful view of the port and of your ship. Or you can take a stroll in the Vigelandsparken sculpture park where you can admire the 212 works by Gustav Vigeland.

Another attractive idea is to go up to the roof of the Opera House, a futuristic marble and glass building in Bjørvika. At the museum of Viking ships on the island of Bygdøy instead you can try to imagine how these rough adventurers lived as you admire the perfectly preserved vessels built in the 9th century. The famous Scream by Munch is found in Oslo, at the National Gallery, together with greatest art collection in Norway.

Only twenty minutes away from the city instead we find TusenFryd, the largest entertainment park in Norway, with no less than 30 attractions. As you arrive from the sea you can, instead, get an idea of what navigation was like in the past by visiting the museum that hosts the Fram, the most famous wooden sailing ship in the history of polar exploration, used by Roald Amundsen in his exploration of the South Pole in 1911.

To experience the life of a land that no longer exists, visit the Norsk Folkemuseum, the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. Installed in Bygdøy it has 155 historic buildings from all around Norway, including an ancient historic centre and a wooden church built in the 12th century. And finally, visit the royal palace and its lovely park, where you can see the changing of the guards every day.
