Day 4: Tangier, Morocco
The ship arrives at Tangier port at 09:00 and departs at 19:00
A magical tour to discover Morocco's two largest cities: Tangier, the white city, the star of many films and the city of a thousand stars, and Tetouan, where Arab and Spanish styles come together perfectly reflecting the dual cultural heritage of the city.
We will begin our tour climbing the mountainous, road, flanked with magnificent villas and magical gardens until we arrive at the promontory of Cap Spartel, which overlooks the Atlantic coast with its impressive lighthouse, erected in 1860. We will briefly stop to take photos of the views of the north-western point of Africa.
We will enter the grotto of Ercole, the caves where, according to legend, the legendary hero rested after having separated Gibraltar from Africa. Presently, these caves are the most popular geographical site in terms of Morocco's national and international tourism.
Then return to Tangier where we will walk across mysterious and windy roads and the souks of the medina: we will have the chance to purchase souvenirs and admire local craftsmanship. As has always been the case, the medina of Tangier serves as a source of inspiration for artists: many famous people such as Eugène Delacroix, Henri Matisse and William Burroughs have visited it and consider it their home.
The next stage allows us to take a break and freshen up a little at a comfortable hotel before heading to Tetouan. Once we arrive at our destination, we will begin our tour of the city starting with the Royal Palace (only from outside) and the surrounding area, before taking our place at the table in a local restaurant for lunch
After lunch, we will continue our tour of Tetouan admiring the architecture, a perfect fusion of Arab and Spanish styles which reflect the dual cultural heritage of the city. In Tetouan, very few people still speak Spanish, however Spanish culture still plays a huge role in the daily life of its inhabitants.
