Day 7: Ancona (Urbino) Italy
The ship arrives at Ancona (Urbino) port at 14:00 and departs at 20.00.
The city of Ancona is located on the northern Adriatic coast of Italy. The port of Ancona is one of the oldest and most important in the maritime region for passengers, cargo, and fishing.
The city stands on an elbow-shaped headland that protects the natural harbor. The Greeks of Syracuse, who founded the city in 387 BC, noticed the shape of the promontory and named the new city Ἀγκών, which means elbow in Greek. Because of its Greek origins, Ancona is also known as "the Doric city".
The city is complex, dynamic and lively from a cultural and economic point of view. On the other hand, Ancona boasts a remarkable cultural heritage together with many beautiful natural and landscape sites. It is home to an important university, a natural park, theatres, museums and art galleries, cultural and economic institutions. It has its own national/international airport, and its maritime connections cover the whole of the Adriatic and Ionian basins.
